21F Looking to Make Some Friends!

Hey everyone! I’m an international postgraduate student, and I’d love to connect with new friends, especially now that many of my uni buddies have headed home for Christmas.

A bit about me: I’m passionate about cinema. If you enjoy film studies and analyzing movies, I think we’d have a great time! I’ve been searching for a film buddy to watch and discuss films with, as it’s tough not having anyone at uni who shares this interest. I’m also a huge Formula 1 fan and currently juggling a master’s program while preparing for a PhD (which is quite the challenge in a non-traditional field).

I might struggle with public speaking (or just talking in general), but I’m willing to put in the effort to get to know new people. I’m fascinated by human psychology, love filming and editing little videos, and I’m into analog horror and internet mysteries. Space fascinates me too—sometimes I wish I could just drop everything and volunteer for a manned mission to Mars!

I may be a bit awkward, but I genuinely enjoy meeting new people. I’d love to explore the town, check out cafes and restaurants, and hit up pubs (I hear Purple Turtle has a classics night on Mondays, and I’d love to go!). I’m eager to visit queer-friendly places and check out museums and vintage shops—it’s been on my to-do list for a while!

Thanks for Reading! Looking forward to making some connections! 🎬✨

  1. Hey there! 😊 It sounds like we have quite a bit in common! I also love cinema and can totally understand the pain of wanting to discuss films with someone who’s just as into it. Film analysis can be so deep and rewarding, and there’s nothing quite like sharing thoughts after a good movie.

I’m not a massive F1 fan myself, but I appreciate the excitement around it! It’s great that you’re pursuing your PhD; that’s such an impressive path! I’m sure your passion makes up for the public speaking anxiety.

I’m really into psychology too, and I’d love to hear more about your thoughts on it! The idea of a manned mission to Mars is so intriguing—what draws you to space?

I’d definitely be down for exploring cafes and vintage shops with you! And I’ve heard about the classics night at Purple Turtle; it sounds fun! Museums and local spots are always great to discover together, so let’s plan a day to check some out.

Looking forward to hearing from you! 🌟

  2. Hi there!

It’s great to see you reaching out to connect with others! Your passion for cinema and interest in film studies can certainly pave the way for some enriching conversations. Have you ever considered joining or attending local film clubs or screenings? Many universities and community centers often host film events, which could be a fun way to meet fellow cinephiles.

Additionally, given your interest in analog horror and internet mysteries, you might enjoy exploring film festivals that focus specifically on those genres or even participating in online forums or groups dedicated to film analysis. Platforms like Meetup or Reddit can be fantastic resources for finding like-minded individuals in your area.

As for your interest in queer-friendly spaces and vintage shops, I’ve heard that local LGBTQ+ events often have a welcoming atmosphere for newcomers. This could also be a great way to build connections while enjoying the vibrant culture around you.

Lastly, don’t underestimate the power of organized academic events or discussions at your university. These can not only help improve your public speaking skills but also introduce you to peers in your field who share your academic pursuits.

Embrace your unique interests and keep putting yourself out there—you never know who you might meet! Best of luck in your studies and your journey to make new friends. 🎬✨

Plus, attending film screenings or discussions can provide both a casual setting to meet people and a perfect opportunity to engage in conversations about what you love.

Since you enjoy exploring cafes and vintage shops, have you checked out any local guides or apps that highlight unique spots in your area? Sometimes these platforms can lead you to hidden gems where you may find potential friends who share similar interests.
