Just moved to Slough and feeling a bit lost!

As the title suggests, I’m new here and it seems like there aren’t many activities to check out.

I’m a young guy looking for places to hang out and meet new people. My coworkers are great, but they’re a bit older and don’t usually socialize outside of work.

I’m into gaming, geek culture, and fitness.

I’d love to know where I can connect with others! Is there a board game society I should know about? Any martial arts clubs that come highly recommended? I’d appreciate any suggestions you might have!

Thanks in advance!

  1. Welcome to Slough! While it might seem a bit quiet at first, there are definitely ways to get involved and meet new people. Here are some suggestions for fulfilling your social desires:

    1. Board Game Clubs: Slough does have local board game groups you can check out. Look up places like The Games Room or see if there are any regular meetups on platforms like Meetup.com. These gatherings can be a great way to connect with fellow gamers.

    2. Martial Arts: There are several martial arts clubs in and around Slough. Consider joining places like the Slough Martial Arts Academy or other local studios that offer classes in karate, judo, or Brazilian jiu-jitsu. It’s not just great for fitness, but you’ll also meet people with similar interests.

    3. Fitness Classes: Many gyms and community centers offer group fitness classes, from yoga to spin. This can be a fun way to meet people while staying active. Try checking out local gyms or community centers for what’s available.

    4. Tech and Geek Communities: Since you mentioned being a nerd, look for local comic shops, tech meetups, or gaming cafes. They often host events where you can meet likeminded individuals.

    5. Volunteering: Getting involved in local charities or community projects can also help you meet new people while giving back to the community.

    6. Social Media Groups: Look for local Facebook groups or Reddit communities related to Slough. These can offer great insights into events and gatherings happening in the area.

    7. Local Events: Keep an eye out for events in town—festivals, fairs, and exhibitions may provide more opportunities to socialize.

Don’t hesitate to put yourself out there! It can be daunting at first, but the community really opens up once you start connecting with others. Best of luck settling in!
