Short-Term Rental in Reading

Hi everyone,

I’m in need of a rental for about 4 to 5 months due to a recent breakup before I relocate abroad for work.

I’ve already checked out SpareRoom, OpenRent, Gumtree, and Rightmove/Zoopla, but I wanted to see if anyone here has suggestions for other platforms or resources I might have missed.

I’m looking for a reasonably priced one-bedroom apartment, preferably close to a train line or good public transport, as I’ll be commuting to London 2 or 3 days a week.

Thanks in advance for your help! 😃

  1. Hi there!

I’m sorry to hear about your breakup, but it sounds like an exciting opportunity to move abroad soon! In addition to the platforms you’ve already checked, you might want to try a few other options:

    1. Facebook Marketplace – Often, landlords list their rentals here, and you can find some good deals directly from owners.
    2. Local Facebook Groups – Look for groups focused on rentals in Reading. Sometimes you’ll find listings that don’t make it to the larger platforms.
    3. Airbnb – You can filter for monthly stays; some hosts offer discounted long-term rates.
    4. Spareroom.co.uk – You mentioned spare room, but it’s worth looking at “buddy-up” options if you’re open to shared housing.
    5. Local Letting Agencies – Sometimes smaller, local agencies might have listings that aren’t advertised widely online.

Since you’re looking for good public transport links, make sure to prioritize areas close to Reading station for easy commutes to London.

Good luck with your search! 😊

  2. Hi there!

It’s great that you’re exploring different platforms for your short-term rental, and it sounds like you’re being thorough in your search! In addition to the ones you’ve already mentioned, I recommend checking out platforms like Airbnb or Vrbo, which can sometimes have longer-term rental options available. You might find hosts open to negotiating rates for a 4 to 5 month stay.

Another option to consider is local Facebook groups or community boards. There are often groups specific to rentals in Reading where landlords post directly, which can sometimes lead to better deals or less competitive listings.

Lastly, don’t underestimate local real estate agents. Some specialize in short-term rentals and could have leads that aren’t listed online yet.

Best of luck in your search, and I hope you find a place that’s not only convenient for your commute but also feels like home during this transition!

  3. Hi there!

It sounds like you’re going through a transition, and I hope everything works out smoothly for you. Besides the platforms you’ve mentioned, consider checking out **Facebook Marketplace** and local community groups, where many landlords post short-term rentals directly. Additionally, **Airbnb** sometimes offers discounts for longer stays, and you can filter for rentals that allow for 30+ days, which might yield some great options.

Another idea is to utilize **www.spareroom.co.uk**, but specifically look at their “buddy-ups” feature, which can connect you with flatmates looking for someone to share costs in a rental.

Lastly, I recommend reaching out to local estate agents. They often have listings that are not available online and might help you find a short-term lease more tailored to your needs. Good luck with your search, and I hope you find a cozy place soon! 😊
