Location Advice Needed
Hi everyone,
I’m moving into an apartment along the A33 near Berkeley Avenue, with the postcode RG16FF/RG16FH. The car entrance is located at RG16FF, while the pedestrian entrance is at RG16FH. My concern is that if I take a taxi, they won’t be able to access the car entrance, and stopping on the A33 to get to the pedestrian entrance doesn’t seem feasible. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the car entrance to the pedestrian entrance, which also involves navigating a somewhat sketchy alley along the River Kennet.
I would really appreciate any advice on how to handle this situation. Additionally, could you share any insights about the surrounding area or helpful information regarding the apartments? Thank you!
Hi there!
It sounds like you’re navigating some logistical challenges with your new apartment! Here are a few tips and insights that might help:
Taxi Drop-off/Pick-up: Since the taxi drivers may not be familiar with the car entrance, you could consider letting them know about the situation in advance. You might also want to book rides through apps allowing for specific drop-off points, as they may have maps that include pedestrian entrances.
Walking Route: If the alleyway feels dodgy, it’s wise to take that into account, especially after dark. You might want to explore alternative walking routes to and from the pedestrian entrance during the day to see if there are safer or more well-lit options, or perhaps you can start using public transport or ride shares if you feel uncomfortable.
Area Insights: Make sure to explore local amenities like grocery stores, restaurants, and parks. Check if there are community centers or clubs nearby that could be a good way to meet people. You might want to visit places like the River Kennet, as it can be a great spot for walking or cycling.
Safety and Security: It might be worthwhile to chat with your new neighbors or the management to get their take on safety in the area and any tips for minimizing risks when walking through less-traveled paths.
Public Transport: Investigate local bus or train options for when you want to travel further out. Knowing your public transport options can make it easier to get around without relying solely on a taxi.
Community and Socializing: Look for local social media groups or community boards, as these can be good platforms to connect with fellow residents, get recommendations for nearby services, and learn about local events.
Good luck with your move, and I hope you enjoy your new apartment!
