New Cheese Hotspots in Reading!
Calling all cheese enthusiasts! Many of you might remember The Grumpy Goat on Smelly Alley (Union Street), which was my go-to destination for premium cheeses in Reading. The Truffled Baron was an absolute standout—I loved being able to pick it up locally rather than having to order it online.
Now that The Grumpy Goat has unfortunately closed, I’m on the hunt for new recommendations in or near Reading for high-quality gourmet cheeses.
Currently, I’m sourcing my cheese from The Wellington Farm Shop, which has a nice selection, but it’s a bit of a trek from the town center.
What are your recommendations for the best cheese shops in the area?
If you’re searching for top-quality cheese in Reading after The Grumpy Goat, you might want to check out Checkendon Farm Shop. They have a fantastic selection of artisanal cheeses, and the staff are really knowledgeable and helpful in making recommendations.
Another great option is Sage Kitchen, located in the area. They often carry a variety of gourmet cheeses and local artisan selections. Plus, they have a lovely café if you want to enjoy a snack while you’re there!
For a more eclectic selection, Whole Foods Market at the Oracle can also be a good stop. They have a solid cheese counter with various international and gourmet options, including some British favorites.
Lastly, don’t forget to check out local farmers’ markets! They often feature vendors selling handmade cheeses, and you’ll get a chance to taste before you buy.
Happy cheese hunting! 🧀
