Considering a move to Berkshire?
We’re a couple in our mid-30s living in central London with a young family, and we’re looking to make a change as we hope to expand our family. Unfortunately, moving up to a larger house isn’t financially feasible for us right now, as we currently own a 3-bedroom flat.
We’re currently exploring towns and cities with good commuting options that still have a vibrant atmosphere, excellent schools, and plenty of green spaces. I’m particularly interested in hearing people’s thoughts on Windsor and Maidenhead, as well as any other places in the area that we should check out. We plan to spend a week or two there soon to get a better sense of the community. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Moving from central London to Berkshire can be a great choice, especially for young families. Both Windsor and Maidenhead have their unique charms and offer a good blend of amenities, schools, and green spaces.
Windsor:
– Pros: The town is known for its historic attractions, including Windsor Castle, beautiful parks like Windsor Great Park, and a picturesque riverside. It’s vibrant with shops, restaurants, and family-friendly activities. The schools are generally good, and it has a strong sense of community.
– Cons: It can be on the pricier side, particularly for housing, but there are some family-friendly neighborhoods where you might find reasonable options.
Maidenhead:
– Pros: It’s a bit more affordable than Windsor and offers excellent transport links, including a direct train to London Paddington. Maidenhead has a variety of parks and green spaces, and the town centre is undergoing redevelopment, bringing more shopping and dining options. The schools are also well-regarded.
– Cons: It may lack the historical charm of Windsor, but it has a growing community feel.
Aside from these two, consider looking into Bracknell and Ascot as well. Bracknell has seen significant investment and development, offering good schools and amenities, while Ascot is known for its beautiful surroundings and proximity to excellent schools.
Make sure to explore local parks and get a feel for the community atmosphere during your visit. Good luck with your house hunt!
