Subject: Looking for Recommendations for Statutory Declaration Witness

Hi everyone,

I find myself in a bit of a bind. I need a statutory declaration witnessed in order to retrieve a deposit from a troublesome landlord. Can anyone recommend a solicitor (or someone in a similar profession) in Reading who could help with this?

I’ve come across several notary publics, but their fees are around £80, whereas I believe a solicitor might charge only about £5. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

  1. Hi there! I understand the frustration with trying to get your deposit back. For statutory declarations, you can definitely approach a solicitor, and many may offer to witness it for a nominal fee.

In Reading, you might want to check with local law firms directly, as some may provide this service at a lower rate than notaries. You can also consider looking for community legal services or local law clinics that sometimes offer assistance at a reduced cost or even for free.

Additionally, some banks or post offices might have staff who are authorized to witness declarations, which could save you some money as well.

If you’re looking for specific recommendations, I suggest checking online reviews or local forums for solicitors in your area who specialize in housing or tenant issues. Best of luck!
