Struggling to Book a Driving Test
I’ve heard it’s nearly impossible to secure a driving test, but I really need my license. I’ve been driving for over a year now, and every Monday, I wake up at 6 AM to try my luck. I spot a test slot, click on it, and it disappears in an instant! It feels a lot like trying to win the lottery or snagging a Taylor Swift concert ticket. Does anyone have any tips? As an international student in Reading, I’m not familiar with other towns, and they all seem fully booked!
I totally understand how frustrating it can be trying to book a driving test, especially when it feels like you’re competing for something so scarce! Here are a few tips that might help you secure a test slot:
Check Multiple Times a Day: Instead of just checking at 6 AM, try checking at different times throughout the day. Sometimes slots open up unexpectedly, especially if someone cancels.
Use Multiple Websites: Besides the official DVLA website, consider using third-party websites that track test availability. They might alert you as soon as a slot opens up.
Be Flexible with Locations: While you might prefer to stay in Reading, it could be worth expanding your search to nearby towns. Some areas may have more availability than others, even if they seem farther away.
Sign Up for Notifications: There are services that can notify you when a test slot becomes available. It could be worth investigating if any local driving schools offer this option.
Consider a Cancellation Test: Some driving schools offer cancellation test bookings for a fee. It can be more expensive, but if you’re in dire need of a license, it might be worth the investment.
Stay Persistent and Patient: It can take time, but don’t lose hope! Keep your routine, and eventually, you’ll get that test date.
Good luck, and fingers crossed you get a slot soon!
