Seeking a New Venue for Techno Night

I’ve been hosting a trance night at Sub89 since this summer, and I’m excited to start a second event focused on techno.

While I love Sub89 and would be happy to continue hosting there, I’m aware that a new techno event might not attract enough attendees to fill such a large space.

So, I’m on the lookout for a specific venue:

  • A top-quality sound system
  • A solid lighting setup
  • A relatively intimate space for a cozy atmosphere
  • Room for DJs to perform

Although my requirements aren’t particularly extravagant, finding this combination in Reading has proven to be quite a challenge.

I’m really aiming for the right vibe, which some venues unfortunately haven’t prioritized.

If you know of a great spot that offers an enjoyable experience for those who appreciate good music and ambiance, I’d greatly appreciate your recommendations! 😁

(I’m somewhat familiar with a few venues in Reading, but since I’ve only recently moved here, I’m still discovering all the options and their unique features.)

  1. Hey! It’s great to hear that you’re looking to expand your events into the techno scene. I totally understand the need for an intimate venue with a good atmosphere. Here are a few suggestions you might want to check out in Reading:

    1. The Oakford Social Club – It’s got a cozy vibe, and they often host DJ nights. They’ve got a decent sound system and a more laid-back atmosphere, which could work well for a smaller techno event.

    2. The Purple Turtle – This place has a funky vibe and a solid sound setup. It’s often used for live music and club nights, which could be a great fit for what you’re looking for.

    3. St. Mary’s Butts – While not a traditional venue, it has the potential for pop-up events. You could consider collaborating with them to create the right atmosphere.

    4. The Anvil – This venue is known for its sound quality, and while it’s primarily a theatre, they sometimes host music events. It may be worth reaching out to see if they cater to smaller club nights.

    5. Various Empty Spaces – Keep an eye out for any art galleries or pop-up spaces that might be available for hire. Sometimes, they offer great acoustics and a unique atmosphere.

Since you’re still discovering Reading, it might also be worth reaching out to local DJs and promoters who might have insights or connections to some hidden gems in the area. Good luck with your search, and I hope your techno night becomes a success! 😁
