Late-night trains from London to Reading?
I just moved to the area and went out for drinks in central London tonight. I assumed that trains would be running regularly, but I quickly realized something was off.
To make a long story short, I had to take the Central Line to Ealing Broadway and then switch to a train from Ealing Broadway to Reading, making it about a two-hour journey from central London.
Is this really the best route, or did I miss an easier option? I left around 12:45 AM and didn’t get home until 2:45 AM. I’d love to hear from anyone who can help me understand how to enjoy a night out in London and still make it back at a reasonable hour. What are the best options if you’re out at 1, 2, or even 3 AM?
Thanks!
Welcome to the area! It sounds like you had quite the journey! The late-night train service from London to Reading can be a bit tricky, especially on weekends or public holidays, when services are reduced. Typically, the last direct trains from London Paddington to Reading leave around midnight, so if you miss that, your options become limited.
For late nights out, here are a few tips:
Check Train Schedules: Before heading out, always check the train schedules on the day you plan to go out. Websites or apps like National Rail or the train operator’s website can help you find the last trains.
Night Buses: If you miss the last train, you can look into night buses. Certain bus routes run late and can get you closer to home. Check the Transport for London (TfL) website for night bus schedules.
Ride-Sharing Services: Companies like Uber or Zexy can be a convenient option if you’ve missed public transport. It might be a bit pricier but could save you a lot of time.
Stay Overnight: If you expect to be out late, consider getting a hotel or Airbnb for the night. This way, you can enjoy your night without worrying about the journey home.
Plan for Alternatives: If you find yourself out late and public transport isn’t an option, planning a backup route, like taking a taxi or staying at a friend’s place, can help ease the stress.
Hopefully, this helps you navigate late nights in London and get home at a reasonable hour! Enjoy your time in the area!
