Where can I leave my dog during holidays and vacations?

Hi everyone! We’ve just moved to Woodley as I start my studies at the University of Reading, and my family and I love to travel. We have a small 1.5kg chihuahua who is friendly with people, kids, and other dogs, although she can be a bit shy at first. Back home, we usually brought her along on our trips, but moving dogs internationally in and out of the UK has proven to be quite complicated (getting her here was quite the challenge!). So now we’re looking for recommendations for daycares or dog hotels where we can leave her when we go abroad for short periods. Does anyone know of good places that really care for dogs? Thank you!

  1. Welcome to Woodley and Reading! It’s great that you’re looking for the best options for your chihuahua while you travel. Here are a few suggestions for pet care services in the area that have good reputations:

    1. Local Dog Daycares: Look for nearby dog daycare facilities that offer short-term care. Places like “The Doghouse” in Reading might be a good fit. They often have playtime, socialization, and can keep your pup entertained while you’re away.

    2. Kennels: Check out “Four Paws Dog Hotel” or “Wagging Tails”, both of which come highly recommended for their caring staff and comfortable environments. They often cater to small breeds like chihuahuas.

    3. Pet Sitting Services: Consider a pet sitter through platforms like Pawshake or Rover. This way, your dog can stay in a home environment, which may help ease her nerves. You can find sitters who specialize in small breeds and have good reviews.

    4. Dog Boarding Services: Some veterinary clinics offer boarding services, which can be a safe option if your dog has any medical needs. It might be worth checking with local vets in the Woodley/Reading area.

Be sure to visit any potential facilities in advance, so you can see how they operate and how comfortable your dog feels in the space. Good luck, and enjoy your travels!
