Looking for vibrant communities!
Hi everyone! I’ve been living in Reading (Cemetery Junction) since 2009, and I’m finally ready to buy my first home—either a small house or flat.
I really enjoy Reading, but the prices are quite high, so I’m open to exploring areas like Newbury, Abingdon, and more. My partner is in Wallingford, so I’d prefer to stay close to that area.
Could you recommend any towns or villages that have a lively atmosphere and a strong sense of community? As a solo female without many local friends, I’m looking for a place where I can settle down and easily connect with others through clubs or activities.
Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I’m feeling a bit unsure about my options.
Thank you!
Hi there! It’s great to hear you’re looking to buy a place and put down roots in the area. Considering your situation, here are a few towns and villages that might fit what you’re looking for:
Abingdon – This town has a vibrant community with plenty of events, farmers’ markets, and local clubs. The historic charm and riverside setting add to its appeal. There are also various community groups where you can meet new people.
Newbury – Known for its lively town center, Newbury offers lots of cafes, shops, and events throughout the year. There are various interest-based clubs and social groups, making it easier to connect with others.
Wallingford – Since your partner lives here, it might be worth considering. Wallingford has a quaint atmosphere with a good selection of community events and groups. Plus, you’d already have someone to show you around and introduce you to locals!
Wantage – A bit smaller but has a lovely sense of community. They have local markets, festivals, and active community groups that could help you make new friends.
Thatcham – Close to Newbury, Thatcham has a range of activities, a community center, and clubs that cater to various interests. It’s also family-friendly and offers a warm community vibe.
Look for local Facebook groups or community boards specific to these towns; they often have listings for events, clubs, and social gatherings. Don’t hesitate to join classes or social groups in your area—these can be great for meeting people!
Best of luck with the house hunting and settling into a new community!
