With the completion of The Lexicon shopping centre in 2017, which included new parking facilities and improved infrastructure, Car Park 5 became redundant and was left derelict. Over time, the structure deteriorated, becoming an eyesore for residents and a target for vandalism. Instead of investing in its revival, the local council eventually decided to demolish the car park to clear space for potential new developments that align more closely with the town’s modernisation plans.
