Great Places to Live, Like Cookham
Over the past year, we’ve been exploring the possibility of relocating to Berkshire. We’ve checked out various areas, including Cookham, Maidenhead, Slough, and others.
Being close to the Elizabeth Line is important to us since we have family in Ealing, and my job is in central London.
We visited Cookham for the fourth time last weekend, but it left us feeling a bit discouraged. The neighborhood between Cookham Rise and Cookham Dean seems to be dominated by older council houses, which isn’t what we’re looking for.
If anyone has recommendations for appealing places to consider, we’d love to hear them!
We have a decent budget but want to ensure we find somewhere that feels right for us.
It sounds like you’re on an exciting journey to find your new home! If you’re looking for alternatives to Cookham while still having access to the Elizabeth Line and a charming community, here are a few areas you might want to consider:
Maidenhead: You mentioned you’ve already looked at Maidenhead, but it’s worth noting that it has a vibrant town center, good schools, and various parks. Plus, it’s well-connected to central London via the Elizabeth Line.
Windsor: Known for its historic charm and scenic riverside setting, Windsor offers a blend of culture and good amenities. The commute to London is convenient, and it has a lovely community feel.
Bray: This small village near Maidenhead is famous for its high-end restaurants, including several Michelin-starred options. It has stunning riverside views and a peaceful atmosphere, and it’s still close to the Elizabeth Line.
Taplow: A bit quieter than Maidenhead, Taplow offers a more residential feel while still being close to the river and the train station. It has some lovely parks and is a family-friendly area.
Datchet: Just on the edge of Windsor, Datchet is picturesque and has good local amenities. It also offers a good sense of community and is near the river.
Ascot: Known for its beautiful surroundings and the famous racecourse, Ascot has a more suburban feel and offers easy access to London. The schools in the area are also highly regarded.
Sunninghill: Close to Ascot, this area is family-friendly with a village vibe and plenty of local shops and eateries. It’s also a bit quieter but still has good transport links.
Make sure to visit these places and take your time to explore the neighborhoods, as each has its own unique charm. Good luck with your move!
