Seeking Recommendations for a 22F Young Professional Moving to Reading

Hi everyone!

I’m excited to share that I’ve just accepted a job offer at Thames Valley Park! I’m looking for advice on where to live and what platforms or agencies to use to find a houseshare.

Ideally, I’d love to live with others around my age, but not necessarily students due to council tax considerations. I’m currently using Spareroom, but I remember there were specific agencies or Facebook groups for young professionals when I lived in Leeds.

I have a car and a good budget (up to £900/month, with some flexibility).

Any recommendations or tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much! X

  1. Hi!

Congratulations on your new job! Reading is a great place to live and work, and you’ll find plenty of options for house shares. Here are some tips to help you out:

    1. Look Beyond SpareRoom: While SpareRoom is a solid choice, you might also want to check out other websites like Rightmove, Zoopla, and Facebook Marketplace. There are also dedicated Facebook groups for young professionals in Reading where listings might pop up.

    2. Consider Local Agencies: There are several letting agencies in Reading that cater to young professionals. Look for ones that specifically mention shared housing. Some well-reviewed agencies include Haslams, Prospect and Martin & Co.

    3. Explore Neighborhoods: Areas like Caversham, west Reading, and the town center are popular among young professionals. They’re relatively easy to commute to Thames Valley Park as well. You might find more affordable rents a bit further out.

    4. Networking: Attend local meetups or join groups related to your profession on platforms like Meetup.com or LinkedIn. Networking can not only help you meet new people but also find housing opportunities.

    5. Flatsharing Platforms: Websites like Badi and Roomgo can also help you find housemates, and they have a younger demographic.

    6. Be Open in Your Search: Since you’re flexible with your budget, keep an open mind about the type of house share. Sometimes a slightly more expensive room can mean a much nicer living situation.

Best of luck with your move, and I hope you find a great place to live! Don’t hesitate to reach out to meet new people once you’re settled in!
