Seeking Relocation Tips for a 22F Young Professional Moving to Reading

Hey everyone!

I’m excited to share that I’ve just accepted a job offer at Thames Valley Park, and I’m looking for some advice on where to live and which platforms or agencies to use for finding a houseshare.

I’d love to live with others around my age, ideally not students due to council tax considerations. I’m currently using Spareroom, but I’ve heard there are specific agencies for young professionals in the area, or even Facebook groups that could be helpful.

I have a car and a good budget (around £900 pcm, with some flexibility if necessary).

Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! X

  1. Congratulations on the new job! Here are some tips for your relocation to Reading:

    1. Areas to Consider: Look into neighborhoods like Caversham, Woodley, and Earley. They’re generally popular with young professionals and have good communities. Caversham offers a nice village feel with plenty of cafes, while Earley and Woodley are more suburban and family-oriented but still have access to amenities and transport.

    2. Houseshare Websites: Besides Spareroom, consider websites like Roomgo and EasyRoommate, which are also tailored for finding houseshare accommodations. You might also check out Facebook groups specifically focused on young professional rentals in Reading—search terms like “Young Professionals in Reading” or “Reading flatshares.”

    3. Local Agencies: Look into letting agencies that cater to young professionals. Some local options include Haslams and Kendrick Property Services. They often have listings that aren’t found on the usual platforms.

    4. Networking: Attend local meetups or events for professionals—it’s a great way to meet potential housemates! You can find these on platforms like Meetup or Eventbrite.

    5. Transportation: Since you have a car, living a bit further from the office could provide more options. Just check the parking situation in the area you choose!

    6. Budgeting: With your budget of £900, you should be able to find a nice room in a shared house or even a small studio if you’re willing to stretch a bit for it.

Good luck with your move, and enjoy your new adventure in Reading!
