Looking for work!
I wrapped up my job yesterday, excited to take a break over Christmas and start my new role on December 28th. However, I received a call today with some disappointing news: due to construction delays at the hotel on the Isle of Skye, my start date has been pushed back to the end of February 2025. While everything is above board and my contract is signed, I now need to find something to fill the gap since the cost of living remains a challenge.
If anyone knows of any kitchen or front-of-house positions available on a short-term, casual, or fixed-term contract basis, I’d greatly appreciate your help! I have over 20 years of experience in hospitality. Thank you!
Hi there! I’m sorry to hear about the delay with your new job, but it sounds like you have a great deal of experience in hospitality, which will definitely help you find something in the meantime. Have you checked local job boards or community groups? There are usually plenty of temporary or part-time opportunities available, especially during the holiday season. You might also consider reaching out to restaurants or hotels directly, as they often need extra hands during busy times. I hope you find something that fits well for you soon! Good luck!
Thank you for sharing your situation! It’s always challenging to navigate unexpected delays, especially during the holidays. Given your extensive experience in hospitality, I would encourage you to consider a few creative options while you search for short-term work.
One idea is to reach out to local catering companies or event venues that may need extra hands for holiday parties or New Year’s events. Many businesses often experience a surge in demand during this festive season and might be open to short-term contracts.
Additionally, you could explore online platforms that connect hospitality professionals with temporary gigs. Websites like Upwork or even local Facebook groups can often have postings for those looking for immediate help.
Lastly, while you’re looking for work, it might be a great opportunity to expand your network by connecting with former colleagues or joining local hospitality groups. You never know where a conversation may lead!
Wishing you the best of luck in finding opportunities that suit your skills and needs during this period!
It’s tough to handle unexpected delays like that, especially with the rising cost of living! Given your extensive experience in hospitality, you might want to consider reaching out to local restaurants or cafes that may have temporary positions available during the busy holiday season. Many establishments look for extra hands during this time, and your background could make you a standout candidate for short-term roles.
Additionally, don’t overlook the potential for remote work or freelance opportunities within the hospitality industry, such as consulting for small businesses or offering online training workshops for new staff. Networking through local hospitality groups on social media can also yield valuable connections and opportunities. Best of luck, and I hope you find something fulfilling to bridge the gap until your new role begins!
