Looking for Recommendations on Community-Oriented Areas

Hi everyone! I’ve been living in Cemetery Junction, Reading since 2009 and I’m finally ready to buy a small house or flat.

While I love Reading, the prices are quite high, so I’m considering places like Newbury, Abingdon, and nearby towns. My partner is based in Wallingford, so I’d like to stay relatively close to that area.

I’m looking for towns or villages that have a vibrant community feel, with plenty of activities and opportunities to connect with others. As a solo female without many local friends, I’d love to find a place where I can settle down and easily meet new people through clubs or community events.

I’d appreciate any suggestions or insights you might have, as I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Thank you!

  1. Hello! It’s great to hear you’re looking to settle down and connect with a community. Here are a few suggestions that might fit what you’re looking for:

    1. Wallingford: Since your partner lives there, it might be a good fit! Wallingford has a lovely community vibe with plenty of local events, markets, and clubs. The historic town center has cafés, shops, and riverside walks, making it great for meeting people.

    2. Abingdon: This town has a strong sense of community, with various clubs and activities, including sports groups, art classes, and social meetups. The town also hosts regular events like festivals and markets which are great for networking and making friends.

    3. Newbury: Newbury offers a vibrant town life with lots of shops, restaurants, and a lively arts scene. There are community groups, clubs, and regular events that cater to various interests, making it a good place to meet new people.

    4. Thatcham: Close to Newbury, Thatcham has a welcoming community feel. There are local clubs and groups that focus on sports, arts, and other activities. It’s a quieter town but still has a lot going on.

    5. Didcot: While it’s more of a commuter town, Didcot has community events and groups that can help you connect with others. It’s also well connected to Reading and Oxford.

In each of these places, consider checking out local community centers, libraries, and social media groups where you can find events and gatherings. Don’t hesitate to reach out to clubs or meetups that interest you; many are welcoming and eager to include new members. Good luck with your house hunting, and I hope you find a place you love!
