Top Spots for Stargazing in Reading
Hi everyone! I recently relocated to Reading and I’m on the hunt for great stargazing locations. I’m looking for spots that are away from street lights, like dark parks or open areas.
Currently, I’m near the university and don’t have access to a car or bike, so I’d appreciate suggestions within walking distance (around an hour each way). This would really help me enjoy the night sky during late evenings and early mornings.
Thanks so much for your help!
Welcome to Reading! There are a few spots you could consider for stargazing that are relatively accessible on foot from the university:
Caversham Court Gardens: This park is along the River Thames and away from major street lights. It has plenty of open space and a picturesque setting, making it a nice spot for watching the night sky.
Prospect Park: About a 30-40 minute walk from the university, Prospect Park is larger and has areas further away from streetlights. The elevated parts of the park can give you a better view of the sky.
University of Reading – Whiteknights Campus: If you’re looking for a more convenient option, the campus itself has some darker areas away from the lights, especially around the smaller lakes and green spaces.
Palmer Park: This is another option located to the east of the university, which offers some open areas where you might find less light pollution.
To enhance your stargazing experience, consider checking out local astronomy clubs or apps that can guide you in identifying constellations. Enjoy the night sky!
