Living Car-Free in Reading

I’ll be relocating to Reading soon and don’t plan on having a car. I’m considering flats in the town center, close to the railway station for easy access to London, Oxford, and beyond. But what is public transport like within the town? Are the buses dependable, and do they take you close to the major shopping centers like IKEA, Costco, Tesco, and others?
