Commuting from London to Slough
Hi everyone! I’ll be starting a new job in Slough next month and currently live in London. I wasn’t considering a move, so I’m curious about the best commuting options to Slough. I noticed that a train ticket costs around £15 per day, which adds up to about £300 a month! Is there a travel card or any other option that could help me save money? Thank you!
Hello! Commuting from London to Slough is quite common, and there are a few options to consider that might save you some money.
Travelcards: Unfortunately, there isn’t a specific travelcard that covers just the London to Slough route since it falls outside of the standard zones. However, you can look into the Railcard options. A 16-25 Railcard or a Two Together Railcard can give you discounts on train fares if you’re eligible.
Season Tickets: If you’ll be commuting daily, a season ticket might be more cost-effective. A monthly season ticket could save you money compared to buying daily tickets. Make sure to check the prices on the National Rail website or directly with the train operator serving your route (typically Great Western Railway).
Oyster or Contactless: Depending on your exact travel situation, you might be able to use an Oyster card or contactless payment for journeys. The fares can be competitive, especially for occasional trips.
Alternative Transport: Consider other options, like taking a bus or checking if there are any carpooling services available. Sometimes, these can be more economical, especially if you find others commuting in the same area.
Cycling: If you’re open to it and live within a reasonable distance, cycling can be a fantastic way to save money and stay active.
Make sure to compare your options based on your travel habits, and possibly try using a journey planner tool to find the best routes and prices. Good luck with your new job!
