Favourite Building in Reading
There are many beautiful and historic buildings in Reading, making it quite difficult to choose just one as a favorite. However, if I had to choose, I would say my favorite building in Reading is the Reading Abbey.
Reading Abbey was founded by King Henry I in 1121 and was one of the richest monasteries in England. The abbey was a place of great importance and influence, both socially and politically, throughout the Medieval period. The abbey was also the final resting place for King Henry I and other members of the royal family.
Unfortunately, the abbey fell into disrepair after the dissolution of the monasteries in the 16th century, and much of the building was destroyed. However, there are still remnants of the abbey that can be seen today, such as the Abbey Ruins and the Abbey Gateway.
The Abbey Ruins are a fascinating historical site, with the remaining walls and archways giving visitors a glimpse into the grandeur of the abbey in its heyday.
