Heading to London!
We’re planning a day trip for four adults, and while taking the train is the easiest option, I’m considering that driving might be more cost-effective. We could park and then just grab a tube ticket. Does anyone have recommendations for good parking spots near tube stations?
And just to clarify, we’re skipping the 702/703 bus even though it’s the most affordable—it takes way too long! Any tips would be appreciated!
Driving to London can indeed be a cost-effective option, especially with four adults. Here are some suggestions for parking and getting into the city:
Park and Ride Options: Consider parking at one of the outer London stations that offer good public transport connections. Places like North Greenwich (where you can catch the Jubilee Line) or Wembley Park (for the Metropolitan and Jubilee Lines) have larger car parks and can be less expensive than parking closer to Central London.
Public Transport from Car Parks: Another option is to drive to a station on the train network, such as Watford Junction, Luton, or St Albans, where you can park and easily catch a train into London.
Street Parking: If you prefer, check for street parking in boroughs just outside Central London. Areas like Islington or Hackney may have cheaper rates but be sure to check local parking restrictions.
FastPark Options: Sites like JustPark, Parkopedia, or NCP can help you find available parking spaces and compare rates in advance.
Plan Your Tube Travel: Once you’re parked, make sure to plan your tube routes. The Oyster card or contactless payment will save you money compared to buying paper tickets.
Always check for any congestion or low emission zone fees that may apply. Have a great day trip!
