Ever wanted to try acting? Here’s your chance!

Hello people of r/Reading!

Paul here from Progress Theatre! I am directing ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime’, which will be on stage November 21-30 this year. You might remember Reading the story, some time ago (perhaps at school!) and in November we are putting on the stage version of Curious Dog.

In short, it’s a beautiful story of Chris (gender fluid), who is an autistic child, working out who killed the neighbours dog, and the subsequent things that happen to him and his family. I really love the play – it’s challenging, but incredibly emotional, funny, sad and poignant.

So, why post? Glad you asked! On August 18th and August 19th we are holding OPEN AUDITIONS for the play.

What’s an OPEN AUDITION? It’s literally that – an audition for anyone of any race, gender, age, disability or neurodiversity. If you’ve ever thought about being on stage, Progress is an amazing portal into the acting world.

I started at Progress 5 years ago, as part of my ‘do something different each year’ mantra, and have done acting, lights, stage management, producting and directing, and am back again directing the most ambitious play I’ve ever attempted.

So, in the style of the great 1940’s posters, I WANT YOU, to come along and see if acting is your thing.

If it’s not your thing, that’s fine too – we have lots of backstage roles that would suit experienced AND beginner folks too. Ever fancied seeing how theater lighting works? Let me know. Sound? Let me know! Want to get grumpy with actors and make them come on time – stage management is for you!

But wait – “I’m on holiday” I hear you say. I HAVE GOT YOUR BACK! You can audition by submitting a video! Details on that on the website.
