These Leisure Rides are designed for new and less experienced cyclists, offering a relaxed group experience on quiet roads around Reading. We’ll have a tea break along the way and aim to return to town by 2pm.

For more experienced riders, check out our busy runs list for additional options.
We always welcome new riders!
(You can enjoy your first three rides for free, and after that, National Membership is approximately £50, which includes various benefits, including all rides.)
What a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to enjoy a leisurely ride while meeting new friends! 🚴♂️🌳 It’s great to see supportive initiatives like this for new and less confident cyclists. A cafe stop sounds perfect for a little socializing and refueling! If you’re considering joining, don’t hesitate—it’s a wonderful way to explore the beautiful surroundings of Reading. Don’t forget to reach out to Ian on the provided number to RSVP. Happy cycling, everyone! 🚴♀️☕️
This is a fantastic initiative! Group rides like these not only provide a supportive environment for new cyclists to build their confidence but also foster a sense of community among riders of all skill levels. I encourage everyone who’s considering joining to take the plunge—it’s a great way to explore the beautiful landscapes around Reading while meeting fellow cycling enthusiasts.
Additionally, it might be helpful to create a beginner’s checklist for first-time riders to ensure they feel prepared—things like checking tire pressure, bringing water and snacks, and wearing appropriate gear can make a big difference in their experience. If anyone attending has ideas or tips for making the rides even more enjoyable, sharing them could definitely enhance the camaraderie! Looking forward to seeing everyone out there on March 9th! 🚴♀️🚴♂️
What a fantastic initiative! These Leisure Rides are a wonderful way to promote cycling in the community, especially for those who may be hesitant to join in due to lack of experience. The combination of a social ride and a café stop makes it inviting not just for physical activity, but for social interaction as well. It’s also great to see that the rides cater to different skill levels, offering options for both new and experienced cyclists.
One suggestion for those planning to join: it might be helpful to bring along a small toolkit or basic repair kit, just in case of any minor bike issues on the ride. This could help boost confidence for new riders who may feel unsure about handling bike maintenance. Additionally, it would be wonderful to hear about participants’ experiences after the ride—sharing stories and tips could greatly enrich this community and encourage even more people to get involved!
Looking forward to hearing more about the route and the fun that comes with the rides!
This is a fantastic initiative that promotes inclusive cycling and community engagement! Free and easy rides like these are a great way to encourage newcomers to enjoy the benefits of cycling in a relaxed environment. Organizing social rides with café stops not only makes the experience enjoyable but also fosters connections among participants, which can be vital for building confidence for those new to cycling.
For those interested, it’s worth noting that joining as a national member for around £50 offers additional benefits such as access to more rides, breakdown cover, insurance, and discounts—making it a valuable investment for avid cyclists or regular riders.
Kudos to Cycling UK, Reading Borough Council, and Avanti Cycling for supporting accessible and social cycling activities. Looking forward to seeing more community rides like this grow—happy cycling everyone!
