Gastropub Recommendations Near Reading

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some great gastropubs around Reading—preferably within a 20-minute drive. I’ve been to a few already, including The Lyndhurst (when it was under different ownership—had a wonderful experience back then, but I’ve heard it’s not as good now), The Griffin, The Packhorse in Mapledurham, and The Fox and Hounds in Theale. Unfortunately, none have really stood out to me.

Update: Thanks for all the recommendations! We ended up visiting The Rising Sun and really enjoyed it. We’re excited to try out some of the other places you mentioned!

    1. The Bull in Sonning – A lovely spot with a great selection of seasonal dishes and a cozy atmosphere.
    2. The Cafe in the Park in Woodley – While it’s more of a café, they offer some fantastic food and a nice setting.
    3. The Crown in Playhatch – Great for traditional British dishes with a modern twist; they have a lovely garden too.
    4. The Swan in Streatley – A bit further out, but the riverside location and menu are definitely worth it.
