Tips for Making Friends in Reading?
Hi everyone! 😊
I’m a 30-year-old female who just relocated to Reading to kick off a new career, and I’m eager to meet new people in the area. I’d love to hear any suggestions for connecting with local communities or making friends!
I plan to check out Reading Joggers this week since I enjoy running. I also love being outdoors, crocheting, and playing music (I play clarinet, bass guitar, and piano; I’d even be interested in joining a choir for fun). With my new job involving mostly shift work, I’m hoping to find social activities or hobbies that don’t require a strict weekly commitment.
Any ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much! 😊
Hi there! Welcome to Reading! It sounds like you have a great mix of interests, which should make it easier to connect with others. Here are some ideas to help you meet people in the area:
Running Groups: Besides Reading Joggers, you might want to check out other local running clubs or community events (like parkrun) where people often connect over their love for running.
Outdoor Clubs: Look for local walking or hiking clubs. The countryside around Reading offers some beautiful trails. Websites like Meetup or local Facebook groups often list these activities.
Crafting Communities: For crocheting, you can search for local craft meet-ups or workshops. Many local shops and community centers have classes or gatherings where you can meet fellow crafters.
Music Groups: Joining a choir is a fantastic idea, and you might also find community bands or orchestras that welcome new members, even for casual participation. Look for postings at local music shops or on social media.
Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteering for local organizations can also be a great way to meet people while giving back to the community. Look for one-time events that fit your schedule.
Events and Festivals: Keep an eye on local events, markets, or festivals. These are often great for mingling and meeting new people in a relaxed atmosphere.
Workplace Connections: Since you’re starting a new job, try to connect with coworkers outside of work, whether it’s joining for lunch or attending any social events they may host.
Social Media & Apps: Utilize platforms like Bumble BFF or local Facebook groups that focus on meeting new friends in the area.
Since your schedule is flexible, these options should allow you to dip your toes in without a stringent commitment. Good luck, and enjoy your time in Reading! 😊
