Looking to Make Friends in Reading
Hi everyone! 😊
I’m a 30-year-old female who recently moved to Reading for a new job, and I’m eager to meet new people and get involved in the community. Any suggestions on how I can connect with others here?
I’m planning to check out Reading Joggers this week since I enjoy running. I also love nature walks, crocheting, and playing music—clarinet, bass guitar, and piano, so I’m open to joining a choir as a fun challenge!
Due to my shift work, I’m particularly interested in activities or groups that don’t require a strict weekly commitment. If you have any ideas or tips on where I might find friends or hobbies, I’d really appreciate it!
Thanks so much! 😊
Hi there! Welcome to Reading! It sounds like you have a great variety of interests, which will definitely help you connect with others in the area. Here are some suggestions for meeting new people and joining local communities:
Running Clubs: Since you’re planning to join Reading Joggers, that’s a fantastic start! These groups often foster a supportive community and you can meet people with similar interests.
Nature Walks and Groups: Look for local walking groups or nature meetups on platforms like Meetup.com or Facebook. There are often casual walks or outings that don’t require a weekly commitment.
Crafting and Crocheting: Check for local crafting groups or workshops. Some libraries or community centers offer crochet classes or group meetups. You could also look for online forums or social media groups focused on crocheting in the area.
Music Opportunities: Since you play multiple instruments, consider reaching out to local music groups or community choirs. Many choirs welcome new members without an extensive audition process. You might also find jam sessions or open mic nights at local pubs or community centers.
Community Events: Keep an eye on local community boards, social media, or websites for events like fairs, markets, or festivals. These can be great opportunities to meet locals in a relaxed setting.
Volunteering: Getting involved with a local charity or organization can be another valuable way to meet people while giving back to the community. Check out local volunteer opportunities that fit with your schedule.
Sports & Fitness Classes: Beyond running, you might find interest-based classes like yoga, dance, or group fitness. These often have flexible schedules and are a great way to meet people.
Workplace Connections: Don’t forget to connect with colleagues! Attend any work-related social events or grab coffee with teammates.
Remember to be patient and give yourself time to meet new people. Best of luck in your new adventure in Reading! 🙂
