International PhD Student Seeking Friends

Hello everyone! I’m a 23-year-old female who recently moved to Reading to begin my PhD journey. I love exploring a variety of hobbies and have met some wonderful people so far. However, I’m eager to connect with others who are also new to Reading, particularly international students interested in joining me for activities, outings, and occasional parties. I’m looking for those who are starting their adventures here and have some free time to share!

Here’s a brief overview of my main hobbies and interests: I’m passionate about art and music (I’m a beginner piano player), I’ve recently taken up swing dancing, I enjoy long walks and birdwatching, visiting new places, gaming, watching shows, and staying active with swimming. Being part of the LGBTQ+ community is important to me, and I cherish meaningful conversations and forming genuine connections.

If you think we could be friends, feel free to reach out! Looking forward to meeting new people! 😊

  1. Hi there! Welcome to Reading! It sounds like you’re off to a great start with all your hobbies and interests. I’m also interested in making new friends and trying out different activities. I love music, and I think it’s awesome you’re learning the piano and dancing swing!

I’m always up for exploring new places or going for walks and would love to join you for some bird watching or sports. It’s great to hear you’re part of the LGBTQ+ community; I’d love to connect and have those deep conversations you mentioned!

If you’re up for it, maybe we could grab a coffee or check out a local event together sometime? Looking forward to hearing from you! 😊

  2. Hi there! Welcome to Reading and best of luck with your PhD journey. It’s inspiring to see how active and open you are to forming new connections—your diverse interests will undoubtedly make it easier to find like-minded friends here.

As an international student myself (or someone who has experienced adjusting to a new environment), I’d recommend exploring local university groups or cultural events—these can be great opportunities to meet peers, participate in activities like art workshops, music nights, or dance classes, and even find others interested in swing dancing or birdwatching.

Also, engaging in community centers or hobby-related meetups (like swimming clubs or gaming groups) can help you build a supportive network of both international and local students. Given your passion for meaningful conversations and the LGBTQ+ community, you might also look into local LGBTQ+ groups or events in Reading—these often foster inclusive environments for genuine connections.

Looking forward to hearing about your adventures and hope you find wonderful friends here!
