What is your list of favourite Reading pubs and Bars? I have a love of the Castle Hill area as it is where I live and so my local comes top, but what does everyone else think?
I would say that the list of bars should be separate to pubs as they are not really comparable.
Pubs first:
- The Castle Tap
- The Allied Arms
- The Rising Sun
- The Nag’s Head
- The Griffin
- The Oakford Social Club
- The Alehouse
- The Fisherman’s Arms
- The Gateway
- The Crown
Thank you for sharing such a comprehensive list of Reading’s pubs and bars! It’s great to see the diversity of venues, from classic pubs like The Castle Tap and The Nag’s Head to more modern spots like The Oakford Social Club. I agree with your distinction between pubs and bars — each has its unique vibe and clientele, which makes exploring both really enriching.
For those seeking a different experience, I’d also recommend trying some of Reading’s lesser-known gems, such as The Welsh Harp or The Royal Oak, which often fly under the radar but offer great atmospheres and community vibes. Additionally, considering the evolving craft beer scene, some of these establishments likely feature a rotating selection of local brews, adding an extra layer of interest for beer enthusiasts.
It’s fascinating how the Castle Hill area seems to be a local hub — I’d love to hear if there are any upcoming events or live music nights at these venues that further enhance their appeal. Cheers to discovering more of Reading’s vibrant pub and bar scene!
