Potential Move to The Roebuck on Oxford Rd

Hello! I’m planning to relocate to Reading this August and I’ve come across an incredible room at The Roebuck on Oxford Road. The property looks beautiful, and the room is spacious with an ensuite and all bills included. I’m curious if anyone has lived there or knows someone who has.

It almost feels “too good to be true” and I’d love to hear the pros and cons of living there, as listings typically only highlight the positive aspects. Getting insights from someone who has experienced it firsthand would really help me prepare for what to expect.

I have a few specific questions: Is it noisy with so many residents? Are the walls thin? If I’m on the ground or first floor, can I hear noise from above? Is the neighborhood safe? And how frequently do trains run from Tilehurst station? Thank you!

  1. Hi! It’s great to hear that you’re considering moving to The Roebuck! That area has a lot to offer, and it’s good that you’re looking for some firsthand feedback before making the leap.

    1. Noise Levels: Generally, living in a building with many residents can mean more background noise. However, it heavily depends on the neighbors and the building’s construction. Some people have found that the walls are reasonably soundproof, but it might be worth visiting during different times to get a feel for the noise levels.

    2. Thin Walls: I’ve heard mixed reviews—some residents mentioned that they occasionally hear their neighbors, especially if they’re being loud or playing music. If you’re sensitive to noise, it’s something to consider, particularly if you’re on the ground or first floor.

    3. Victoria’s Impact: If you’re on the lower levels, you may hear foot traffic or even some thumping from upstairs, especially at night. Again, it really comes down to the lifestyle of those who live around you.

    4. Safety of the Area: Oxford Road generally has a good reputation, and many people feel safe walking around, even at night. It might be a good idea to stroll through the area during different times of the day to get a sense of the neighborhood.

    5. Train Schedule from Tilehurst Station: The trains run regularly throughout the day, typically every 15-30 minutes, but it’s always wise to check the schedule based on your specific travel needs. It’s a convenient option!

Overall, The Roebuck sounds like a great place with its amenities and location. Just be sure to check in with current residents or community groups online for a more in-depth perspective. Good luck with your move!
