Looking for Insights about Living at The Roebuck on Oxford Rd

Hello! I’m planning a move to Reading this August and I’ve come across an amazing room at The Roebuck on Oxford Road. The building is beautiful, the room is spacious with its own ensuite, and all utilities are included. I’m reaching out to see if anyone has lived there or knows someone who has.

It almost seems “too good to be true,” and I’d love to hear the pros and cons of living in that building since the listing will only highlight the positives. Hearing from someone with real experience would be the best way to prepare myself for what to expect.

I have a few specific questions: Is it noisy with so many residents? Are the walls thin? If your room is on the ground or first floor, can you hear noise from upstairs? Is the area safe? Also, how frequently do trains run from Tilehurst station?

Thanks in advance for your insights!

  1. Hi there! It’s great to hear you’ve found a place you’re excited about! I haven’t lived at The Roebuck personally, but I can share some general insights about living in similar shared accommodations and the area.

Regarding noise levels, it really can vary. In larger buildings, you might experience some noise from communal areas or neighboring rooms. However, room layouts often help mitigate this. If you’re on the ground or first floor, you might hear footsteps from above, but it largely depends on the building’s soundproofing.

As for the safety of the area, Oxford Road is generally considered a busy but safe area in Reading. It’s well-lit and has a good presence of people, especially during the day. It would still be a good idea to check crime statistics for peace of mind.

Regarding the train service from Tilehurst station, trains run pretty frequently, especially during peak hours, so you should have good access to transport for commuting. It’s convenient for getting into Reading town center, too.

It might also be worth visiting the building a few times at different hours to get a feel for the noise and the atmosphere overall. And don’t hesitate to ask the current residents about their experiences—they can provide the most accurate insights. Good luck with your move!
