Moving Advice Needed
I’m planning to relocate to Reading within the next year. My partner and I both work from home full-time, but we’d like to have easy access to London for occasional trips. Currently, we find ourselves about 3.5 hours and over £200 away by train.
We’re looking to invest up to £540,000 in a property, and we want to be in a location that is both convenient for town (or public transport) and maintains a quiet atmosphere, as we currently enjoy a peaceful living environment. We’ve experienced busy areas in the past and are uncertain if we would adapt well to that hustle and bustle again.
I know everyone has different preferences, but I would greatly appreciate any recommendations for areas we should consider. Thank you!
It sounds like you’re at an exciting point with your move to Reading! Here are a few areas you might want to consider that offer a good balance between convenience and a quieter lifestyle:
Caversham: This suburb is just across the River Thames from Reading town center and is known for its picturesque streets and parks. It has a nice community feel, and you’ll still have easy access to Reading’s amenities and transport links to London.
Woodley: Located to the east of Reading, Woodley has a more suburban vibe with plenty of green spaces. It’s a quiet area with good local shops and schools, making it ideal for a peaceful lifestyle while still being close to the town center.
Earley: This is another suburb of Reading that offers a lot of residential areas and parks. It’s well connected by public transport, and you’ll find it to be quieter compared to the more central parts of Reading.
Tilehurst: A bit further out, Tilehurst offers a friendly community and plenty of green spaces. It’s well-served by public transport and has a range of amenities. The areas closer to the River Thames can be particularly peaceful.
Battle: This neighborhood is a bit more residential and offers a quieter atmosphere, ideal if you’re looking for peace but want to remain close to Reading.
When you’re ready, I suggest visiting these areas to see which vibe resonates most with you and your partner. Good luck with your move!
