Considering a Move to Slough
Hi everyone,
My wife has just landed a job in Slough, and given her current commute of two hours each way, it’s become clear that we need to relocate. I currently work at London Bridge, so a move to Slough would help make my commute much more bearable.
I’ve walked around the town center on a weekday, and it seemed quite fine, albeit a bit quiet. There are some well-known brands, and with the ongoing regeneration efforts and the introduction of Crossrail, I’m hopeful things will improve even further.
That said, I’ve heard mixed reviews about living in Slough. Are there certain areas that are better or worse in terms of safety and general atmosphere? I’m particularly curious about what it’s like to live near the center. I’ve noticed that most blog posts I found are a few years old and tend to have a negative slant—has the situation changed for the better?
Having spent my entire life in Walthamstow and North London, I’m not too familiar with Slough or what it has to offer. Any insights would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Hi there!
It’s great to hear that your wife has accepted a job in Slough! Moving to a new area can be a big decision, especially with the commute in mind.
Slough has been undergoing significant regeneration, and the introduction of Crossrail is definitely a game changer for commuting to London. This should make travel times much more manageable for you, especially if you’re heading to London Bridge. The town center has improved quite a bit, and having some big brand shops and restaurants is a positive sign.
As for the good and bad areas, like any town, it has its ups and downs. Some neighborhoods are quite nice and family-friendly, while others might have more challenges. Generally, areas slightly further from the town center tend to be quieter and more residential. It’s worth researching specific neighborhoods like Cippenham, Langley, and Burnham, which are often regarded as good places to live.
In terms of crime, Slough does have areas with higher crime rates, but this is improving with ongoing developments. You might want to check out local crime maps, which can give you a clearer picture of specific neighborhoods.
Overall, living close to the center might provide you with easy access to amenities and transport links, but it’s always good to weigh that against noise and foot traffic.
Don’t hesitate to visit different parts of Slough at various times of the day to get a real feel for the place! Good luck with your move, and enjoy the new chapter!
