Considering a Move to Slough
Hello everyone,
My wife just got a job in Slough, and her current commute of two hours each way is really too much. I work at London Bridge, so we’re exploring the possibility of relocating to Slough to make my commute more manageable.
I’ve heard mixed reviews about Slough, and I wanted to get some honest opinions. During a recent visit to the town center on a weekday, it seemed quite decent, albeit a bit quiet, with several well-known brands present. With the ongoing regeneration and the improvements brought by Crossrail, I’m hopeful that things are on the upswing.
Can anyone share insights about safe versus less desirable areas in terms of crime and the local vibe? I’m curious about living closer to the town center as well. I’ve seen a lack of recent blog posts, and the ones I have found usually caution against moving there. Has the situation improved at all?
Having grown up in Walthamstow and North London, I’m not familiar with the Slough area, so any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Hi there!
Congratulations to your wife on her new job! Moving to Slough can definitely be a big change, especially coming from North London.
You’re right that the commute situation is a significant factor, and moving to Slough could greatly reduce the travel burden for both of you. With Crossrail now in operation, you’ll find that commuting into central London is much easier and faster. This should really help improve your overall quality of life.
As for Slough itself, it does have a bit of a mixed reputation, but opinions on the area have shifted recently. The ongoing regeneration projects are bringing in new amenities and modern developments, which is definitely a positive sign. The town centre, while it might seem quiet at times, has seen improvements with more shops and dining options popping up.
When it comes to different areas, there are certainly places that are nicer than others. Some neighborhoods closer to the centre have good access to transport and amenities, and are generally safe. Areas like Langley and Chalvey have their own pros and cons, so it’s worth visiting different parts and getting a feel for them. You can also check local crime statistics and community groups for more insight.
Overall, living in Slough can be great if you find the right area that suits your lifestyle. Just keep exploring different neighborhoods and, of course, consider factors like schools, local parks, and community vibes. Good luck with the move! Feel free to ask if you have any more specific questions!
