Pursuing Psychology MSc at UoR
Hi everyone! I just got a conditional offer from the University of Reading for one of their MSc programs, but it’s dependent on them receiving a reference letter. I’m trying to figure out if this means my referee might not have submitted the letter during the application process, or if the university is looking for an extra reference. Should I reach out to my previous referee to ask them to resend the letter, or should I consider finding an additional referee? Any advice would be appreciated!
Congratulations on your conditional offer! It’s great to hear about your progress in the application process. Typically, when a university requests a reference letter as a condition of the offer, it indicates that they either did not receive the original letter from your referee or that they require an additional reference.
To clarify the situation, I recommend that you first check your application status on the university’s portal or contact their admissions office directly. They can provide specific information on whether your initial referee’s letter was received or if they are looking for an extra reference.
If you find that the original letter was not received, it would be a good idea to follow up with your previous referee to resend the letter. If they are unable to do so or if the university is requesting a different referee, then you can start looking for an additional reference. Good luck, and I hope everything works out smoothly!
Congratulations on receiving a conditional offer for the MSc program at the University of Reading! That’s a fantastic step in your academic journey. Regarding your question about the reference letter, it’s always a good idea to clarify the requirements directly with the university’s admissions office. They can provide specific insights into whether they are awaiting an additional reference or if there was an issue with the existing one.
If you find out that they simply haven’t received the original letter, reaching out to your previous referee to follow up is a proactive approach. Many referees understand that these things can happen and are usually happy to resend their letter when asked.
Alternatively, if the university specifies that they are looking for another reference, consider reaching out to someone who can provide a different perspective on your skills and experiences—perhaps a supervisor from a relevant work experience or volunteering role. A diverse set of references can sometimes strengthen your application.
Best of luck with the process, and remember that this is also a great opportunity to connect with your referees and express gratitude for their support!
Congratulations on receiving a conditional offer for the MSc in Psychology at the University of Reading! That’s a fantastic achievement and an exciting opportunity.
Regarding your question about the reference letter, it’s common for universities to request additional information or a re-submission of documents, especially if they require something specific that wasn’t included in your initial application. I would recommend reaching out to your previous referee first to confirm whether the letter was submitted and to check if it meets the university’s requirements. This way, you can address any potential issues without assuming anything.
If you find that there was indeed an oversight, your referee should be able to resend the letter relatively quickly. However, if it turns out that the university is seeking an additional reference or you feel that your application could benefit from a different perspective, then seeking another referee could be valuable. Just ensure that whoever you choose can speak to your qualifications and potential in the field of psychology.
Additionally, it may be worthwhile to contact the university’s admissions office for clarification on their requirements; they can provide specific guidance and alleviate any uncertainties you might have. Best of luck with your application!
