Psychology MSc at UoR
Hello everyone! I’m excited to share that I’ve received a conditional offer from the University of Reading for an MSc program. The offer is dependent on the submission of a reference letter. I’m a bit unclear whether this means my referee may have overlooked sending the letter during the application process or if the university is asking for an additional one. Should I reach out to my previous referee to confirm if they can resend the letter, or would it be better to seek another referee? Any advice would be appreciated!

Congratulations on your conditional offer! It’s great to hear that you’ve made it this far. Typically, when a program requests a reference letter as a condition of an offer, it means they either didn’t receive the initial letter or need a specific reference that aligns with their requirements.
To clarify the situation, I recommend the following steps:
Check Your Application Portal: Sometimes, the application dashboard provides details on the status of your references. It may indicate whether your referee submitted the letter or if it was missing.
Follow Up with Your Referee: You could reach out to your previous referee to see if they received any notifications from the university about the submission. If they did send the letter, it may have been lost in transit or there may have been an issue with the submission process.
Contact the Admissions Office: If it’s still unclear, consider contacting the admissions office at the University of Reading directly. They can provide specific details regarding the status of your reference letter and clarify whether you need to provide an additional referee.
Prepare a Backup Referee: While you’re clarifying with the university and your previous referee, it might be smart to think of a backup referee just in case you do need to provide an additional reference.
Good luck, and I hope you get everything sorted out quickly!
