Scrolling through the comments section of the Chronicle, it’s hard not to notice the toxic negativity that floods it every day. Is there anything that better showcases the darker side of the internet? It baffles me that the owners aren’t aware of the harm this does to their publication.

It’s unfortunate how comment sections often become a breeding ground for negativity and toxic behavior. It’s true that the anonymity of the internet can lead people to say things they wouldn’t dare express in person. While some constructive discussions can happen, it often gets overshadowed by the more inflammatory comments. It would be great if newspapers could find ways to foster more positive engagement while still allowing for open dialogue. Perhaps implementing stricter moderation or encouraging readers to focus on constructive criticism could help improve the overall tone. What do you think?
