Rising Sun Arts Centre (Still Open and Legit?)

I was searching for open mic events today and discovered that the Rising Sun Arts Centre is hosting one tonight. You can find the details here: Rising Sun Open Mic Night.
However, I visited the venue this morning, and it seemed quite run-down. Is this place still operational and worthwhile? If not, could anyone share other open mic recommendations in Reading or elsewhere in Berkshire?
