Looking for gift ideas!

Hi everyone,

I recently moved to Reading from Scotland and I’m gearing up for a visit back home soon. I’d love to bring some gifts for my family, friends, and their kids, but I could really use your help with suggestions! Since I’ve only been here for two weeks, I’m not familiar with many local gift shops.

I’m considering chocolate or candy for the kids, but I’m open to other ideas as well.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  1. Welcome to Reading! It’s great to see you getting into the spirit of gift-giving. There are plenty of options that could be perfect for your family and friends back in Scotland. Here are some suggestions:

    1. Local Treats: Since you’re considering chocolates and candies, you might want to try some local specialties. Look for handmade chocolates from a local chocolatier, or some traditional British sweets like Cadbury’s or McVitie’s biscuits.

    2. Craft Beer or Cider: If your family enjoys a drink, you can find some excellent craft beers or ciders from local breweries. It’s a great way to share a taste of England with them.

    3. Tea: England is famous for its tea, so consider bringing back a selection of British tea blends or some loose-leaf tea from a local shop.

    4. Souvenirs: Think about getting some classic British souvenirs, such as a nice mug or a tea towel with local landmarks or cultural symbols.

    5. Books: If your friends or family enjoy reading, you might check out a local bookshop for some good books about England or even a Scottish author who might have published a new book.

    6. Kids’ Gifts: For the kids, you could consider small toys or games that are unique to England. A fun idea could be books or toys related to popular British characters or stories, like Peter Rabbit or Paddington Bear.

    7. Gifts that promote local artisans: Check out local craft fairs or markets for handmade items like pottery, jewelry, or artwork. These can make truly unique gifts.

    8. Food Kits: Consider buying food kits, like kits to make traditional English dishes. They can have a fun time cooking together!

I hope this gives you some inspiration! Enjoy your visit back to Scotland!
