The Curve
I was feeling a bit lost in Slough, so I thought, “When is that new building near Tesco opening?” The barriers had pictures of breakdancers, which made me think there might be some interesting facilities for various activities. Curious, I looked it up and discovered Slough.gov.uk/business/regenerating-slough/the-curve---cultural-and-learning-centre.aspx">The Curve, set to open in summer 2015.
I was excited to watch the ‘fly-through’ video of The Curve. It’s quite a large structure. Here’s what I found:
1st Floor: An expansive, mostly empty area with just eight bookshelves.
2nd Floor: More bookshelves. Isn’t there already a library across the street?
3rd Floor: Tables and a few more bookshelves. Most of the space is taken up by an enormous gap, giving you a view of the floor below.
But the highlight is on the 1st floor—a small auditorium with seating for 180 people. While it’s the most impressive part of the building, 180 seats feels rather limited, and I didn’t spot any wings for performers.
Honestly, I’m incredibly frustrated with Slough. I can’t wait to leave.
It sounds like you had high hopes for The Curve, and I can understand your disappointment after exploring it. It’s frustrating when a new building doesn’t seem to deliver on its potential, especially when you’re looking for space to be creative or engage in various activities. Libraries can be great, but it does seem odd to have one so close to another.
Have you had a chance to explore other options in Slough or nearby? Maybe there are some local community centers or parks that could offer a better experience for what you’re looking to do. It’s always tough when your expectations clash with reality, but hopefully, you can find somewhere that meets your needs!
