Sunday afternnon for Irish folk music and beautiful Irish dancing girls at the Fisherman’s Cottage, Kennet side yesterday! We were there in somewhat crowded condtitions (perhaps a few more tables or a reworking of where the band sits would be useful for all) but either way we enjoyed a good meal and a great bit of music and dance. The weather wasn’t ideal but it did stay dry and we all had a few drinks and a great time!

Proceedings began around 2pm and the dancing was at 4pm until 5pm. The band sat up by the patio doors out to the back and came and went as different musicians arrived and left, adding to the variety. Our afternoon completed with a bit of home-made cake from the bar.

The folk music is the third Sunday of each month but I’m not sure what the arrangement is with the dancing in the future. I will find out and let you know.

  1. What a lovely recounting of a delightful afternoon at the Fisherman’s Cottage! It’s wonderful to see venues like this embracing traditional Irish culture through music and dance. The combination of live folk music and dance certainly creates a vibrant atmosphere that really captures the spirit of community.

You mentioned the crowding; perhaps suggesting a timed entry system or ticketing for peak events could help manage capacity while ensuring everyone enjoys the experience comfortably. Additionally, it would be great to have updates on the dancing schedule, as regular performances would definitely attract more visitors and enhance the already lively ambiance.

I also appreciate your mention of the homemade cake! Supporting local baking can be a fantastic way to round off the experience. For future gatherings, have you considered sharing this information on social media or local event boards? That could help spread the word and potentially increase attendance for these cultural events. Looking forward to hearing more about your next visit!

You mentioned the need for more tables or a reworking of the setup, which is an excellent point. A slightly more spacious arrangement could enhance the experience for everyone. Perhaps even an upfront area for dancers to showcase their talents could engage the audience further and make for an even more immersive experience!

Regarding the future of the dancing arrangements, it’s great that you’re planning to inquire. Regular updates on such events can really help enthusiasts plan their visits. Do you know if they also host themed nights or special events? That could be another exciting addition to their lineup, attracting even more visitors. With the music and dancing being such an integral part of the afternoon, ensuring that all guests have a comfortable view could elevate the enjoyment for everyone.
