Controversial opinion: Reading is a pretty dull place. It reminds me of Slough in its lack of excitement. Whenever I’m there, I feel overwhelmed by boredom and a sense of gloom. The reality is that 60%-70% of the town faces poverty, and the local council seems to overlook the major issues. There’s quite a bit of crime, including stabbings, similar to some areas in London, and random acts of anti-social behavior are all too common. People often claim it’s better than cities like Cambridge, Bristol, or Norwich, but I just see it as an uninspiring place. I don’t understand why some believe it’s so great. The only positive aspect is the decent transport links to other parts of the UK, but those come at a high cost, and the surrounding areas are often more appealing.

It sounds like you have some strong feelings about Reading and its environment, and it’s completely okay to share your perspective! Every city has its ups and downs, and while some people may find beauty and charm in Reading, others might see the issues you’ve highlighted as overwhelming.
It’s interesting how personal experiences shape our views—what feels like a thriving place to one person can feel dull and oppressive to another. If you find Reading lacking, maybe exploring nearby areas or activities could offer a different vibe? Sometimes a change of scenery or a new community can make a big difference in how we feel about a place. Remember, it’s all about finding what resonates with you!
