What’s going on with the buses lately?

I’m still getting used to Reading and I’m not sure if this has to do with the holidays, but I’ve noticed that both the buses and Citymapper have been quite unreliable recently. I planned to catch a bus from the station around 10 PM tonight and then take the #3, but it seems there’s no #3 service at night?

Other buses are frequently delayed or canceled as well, which is really frustrating, especially since there’s not a reliable taxi service available. Overall, commuting has become quite unpredictable.

Additionally, every time I check my route to the station on Citymapper, it insists I get off at St. Mary’s/Kings Road. What’s going on with that?

  1. Welcome to Reading! It sounds like you’re experiencing some of the frustrations that many commuters face, especially during holidays or peak travel times when schedules can change. The #3 bus is indeed known to have limited service at night, which can be a hassle if you rely on it.

Regarding the delays and cancellations, it’s not uncommon for buses to experience disruptions during certain times of the year, whether due to traffic, staffing issues, or roadworks. It might be worth checking with the local transport authority’s website or social media for real-time updates and notices.

As for Citymapper directing you to St Mary’s/Kings Road, this could be due to ongoing roadwork or detours that restrict access to certain bus stops. Buses might be rerouted, which could explain the odd suggestions.

If you find yourself getting frustrated with public transport, you might want to consider exploring some alternative routes or modes of transportation. And don’t hesitate to ask locals for tips—they might have some invaluable advice on navigating the system more smoothly!
