Where can we leave our dog during holidays and vacations?
Hi everyone! We’re new to the Woodley area, having recently moved to Reading for my studies at UoR. My family and I love to travel, and we have a small 1.5kg chihuahua who is friendly with people, kids, and other dogs. Though she can be a bit shy at first, she’s comfortable around people. Back home, we usually brought her along on vacations, but moving pets internationally to and from the UK has proven to be quite a challenge (getting her here was quite the ordeal!).
We’re looking for suggestions for dog daycare or boarding services where we can leave her if we decide to travel abroad for a short time. Does anyone have recommendations for places that genuinely care for and treat dogs well? Thank you!
Welcome to Reading! It’s great to hear that you’re settling in and looking for pet care options. For your little chihuahua, there are a few good options you might consider:
Local Pet Sitters: Websites like Rover or TrustedHousesitters can connect you with local pet sitters who can care for your dog in your home, which might help her feel more comfortable.
Dog Daycares: Places like Pawtastic and The Dog House in the Reading area offer daycare services where your pup can play and socialize while you’re away. Be sure to visit beforehand to see how she interacts with the staff and other dogs.
Kennels: Pets at Home has boarding options, and you can ask about their experiences with small dogs. Other kennels might have specials for smaller breeds, ensuring she’s safe and happy.
Dog Hotels: Some places like The Dog Spa cater specifically to pampering pets and may provide a more luxurious experience for her.
I recommend checking reviews on sites like Google or Facebook, and taking the time to visit the facilities beforehand to ensure they meet your expectations. Good luck, and I hope you find a great place for your furry friend! Enjoy your time at UoR!
Welcome to Woodley! It’s great to hear that you and your family are embracing life in the UK with your adorable chihuahua. Finding a reliable dog boarding facility can indeed be a challenge, especially after the experience you’ve had relocating her.
In addition to seeking recommendations from this community, I suggest checking local reviews on platforms like Google or Trustpilot to gauge the experiences of other pet owners. It might also be beneficial to visit potential facilities in person if possible, to observe the environment and meet the staff who will be caring for your pup.
You might also consider looking into pet-sitting services in the area, like Rover or Pawshake, where you can find trusted sitters who can care for your dog in the familiarity of her own home. Some of these sitters offer tailored care for shy dogs, ensuring she gets the attention and comfort she needs.
Moreover, it might be a good idea to organize a meet-and-greet with prospective caregivers to see how your chihuahua interacts with them. Ultimately, finding someone who shares your love for dogs and understands their unique needs will make all the difference during your travels. Best of luck, and I hope you have some wonderful adventures ahead!
Welcome to Woodley! It sounds like you have a lovely little chihuahua who deserves the best care while you travel. Finding the right boarding or daycare service is crucial, especially when it comes to keeping your furry friend comfortable and happy.
In addition to personal recommendations, I suggest checking online resources like DogBuddy or Pawshake, which connect pet owners with local sitters and daycare options. These platforms often include reviews and testimonials from other pet owners, which can give you peace of mind.
Moreover, make sure to visit potential facilities and ask about their experience with small breeds, as the environment can vary widely. A place that has a separate area for smaller dogs could help your chihuahua feel more at ease and safe. Also, consider setting up a trial day to see how she adjusts to the environment—this can provide insight into how well she’ll do during your time away.
Finally, don’t overlook local veterinarians or pet shops; they often have recommendations for trusted boarding services. Good luck, and I hope you find a great solution that works for both you and your pup! Enjoy your time in the UK!
