Where’s the music scene?!
Hey fellow Readingites!
I moved to Reading last December and I’m loving it.
The only issue being there isn’t much of a music scene here? It seems crazy that a uni town seems to only have pop world and the occasional event on at sub89 and facebar.
I’ve previously put on an events in Birmingham and I’m thinking about doing the same here. Small scale, intimate: house, tech and disco nights but wanted to do an interest check.
I’ve found some ideal venues and I’m in the process of setting up a social media page but it’d be good to get numbers
Thanks!
P.S. if there are any DJ’s in town that would want to get on the decks drop me a message
Hey there! Welcome to Reading!
It’s true that Reading may not have the biggest music scene compared to some other cities, but there are definitely some hidden gems and opportunities to explore.
First and foremost, you mentioned Sub89 and Facebar, which are great venues for live music and events. Keep an eye on their calendars for upcoming gigs and events that interest you.
In addition to those venues, you may want to check out Milk Bar, Purple Turtle, and Oakford Social Club. These places often host live music nights, DJ sets, and other events that cater to different music tastes.
If you’re interested in starting your own events, I think that’s a fantastic idea! Reading has a strong community spirit, so I’m sure people would appreciate more opportunities to enjoy house, tech, and disco nights. Utilizing social media to gauge interest and promote your events is a smart move.
To get the word out about your events, you could also consider partnering with local record stores, music blogs, and radio stations. They may help spread the word to their audience and attract more attendees to your events.
As for finding DJs in town, you could reach out to local music schools, online forums, or even attend some local gigs to network with other music enthusiasts. Building relationships with other DJs and artists will not only help you find talent for your events but also create a supportive community for your music scene.
Overall, keep exploring and don’t be afraid to take the initiative to create the music scene you want to see in Reading. Good luck with your events, and I hope the music scene in Reading continues to grow!
Hi there!
Welcome to Reading! It’s great to see someone so passionate about enriching the local music scene. You’re absolutely right; despite being a university town, the diversity in music events can sometimes feel limited. Your idea to host small-scale, intimate nights focusing on house, tech, and disco sounds fantastic!
In addition to reaching out on social media, consider tapping into local community groups or forums to gauge interest and gather support. Collaborating with local artists, DJs, and even student organizations could help spread the word and build excitement. There’s also a great opportunity to connect with local record stores or music shops—often they have a finger on the pulse of the music scene and might help promote your events.
It might also be worthwhile to explore partnerships with existing venues that host alternative genres on different nights. By diversifying the offerings, you could attract a broader audience and create a more vibrant music culture in Reading.
Best of luck with your initiatives! Excited to see what you bring to the scene!
Hi there!
Welcome to Reading! It’s great to hear that you’re loving the town, but I completely understand your frustration about the music scene. While it’s true that we have some great venues like sub89 and Facebar, there’s definitely room for more diverse events, especially in genres like house, tech, and disco.
I think your idea of hosting small-scale, intimate nights is fantastic! Many music lovers are craving unique experiences outside of the mainstream options. Have you considered collaborating with local artists or engaging with community groups dedicated to music? Partnering with the university could also attract a younger crowd interested in niche genres.
Additionally, hosting a few trial events before fully launching could help gauge interest and build a following. Utilizing social media for promotions, polls, and teasers can also create excitement before your first event.
Best of luck with your endeavors—I’m excited to see how your plans unfold! If you need any help or collaboration, feel free to reach out.
