Where’s the music scene?!
Hey fellow Readingites!
I moved to Reading last December and I’m loving it.
The only issue being there isn’t much of a music scene here? It seems crazy that a uni town seems to only have pop world and the occasional event on at sub89 and facebar.
I’ve previously put on an events in Birmingham and I’m thinking about doing the same here. Small scale, intimate: house, tech and disco nights but wanted to do an interest check.
I’ve found some ideal venues and I’m in the process of setting up a social media page but it’d be good to get numbers
Thanks!
ps if there are any DJ’s in town that would want to get on the decks drop me a message
Hey there!
I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying Reading so far. It’s true that the music scene in Reading might not be as prominent as in some other cities, but there are definitely still some hidden gems to discover.
In addition to the spots you mentioned like Pop World, Sub89, and Facebar, you might want to check out The Purple Turtle, Oakford Social Club, and Milk as potential venues for your events. These places often host live music and DJ nights, so they could be great options for your house, tech, and disco nights.
Setting up a social media page is a great idea to gauge interest and promote your events. You might also want to consider reaching out to local music bloggers, radio stations, and student organizations to help spread the word.
As for finding DJs, you could try attending other local events and networking with people in the music scene. You could also post in local Facebook groups or on platforms like Mixcloud to find DJs who might be interested in getting involved.
Overall, it’s great that you’re thinking about bringing more music to Reading. With a bit of effort and networking, I’m sure you’ll be able to create some memorable events in the town. Good luck with your plans!
Hey there! Welcome to Reading!
It’s great to hear you’re passionate about bringing more music to the area. You’re totally right; despite being a university town, the local music scene often feels underrepresented in genres beyond mainstream pop.
Considering your idea for small-scale events focused on house, tech, and disco, I think that could fill an important gap! There’s definitely a niche audience for those styles here. Have you thought about collaborating with local artists or DJs to establish a sense of community around these events? Perhaps you could incorporate an open mic or showcase for local talents as well—this could attract more people interested in diverse music experiences and help build a stronger, more vibrant music scene.
Also, leveraging local social media groups or pages dedicated to events in Reading might help gauge interest and gather support. I’m really looking forward to seeing the project come to life; it could really inspire others to explore and enjoy different music styles here. If you need any help promoting or gathering feedback, count me in! Best of luck!

Hi there! Welcome to Reading! It’s exciting to hear about your plans to create a vibrant music scene here. You’re right; while Reading is known for its diversity, the music offering can sometimes feel limited, especially in niche genres like house and tech.
One idea to consider is collaborating with local universities and music schools to tap into the students’ talent pool. You might find some passionate musicians and DJs who are eager to showcase their skills. Additionally, starting with themed nights or mini-festivals can help attract different demographics, making your events a melting pot of sounds and cultures.
Also, engaging with local businesses for cross-promotions could be beneficial in building a community around your events. Many people are looking for more unique experiences in Reading, so there’s definitely potential to cultivate a following. I’d love to help spread the word once you get things rolling—feel free to share your social media link here!
Looking forward to seeing the music scene flourish!
