Who would be interested in a mobile fabric shop in and around the Reading area? I’m considering launching a mobile fabric shop.
I was quite disappointed when Fabricland closed, and while Lady Sew-and-Sew is fantastic, it’s a bit far to travel.
My idea is to operate out of a charming horsebox or something similar, making rounds through local villages and visiting farmers’ markets and similar events.
What are your thoughts? Do you think there’s a demand for this?
I love the idea of a mobile fabric shop! It sounds like a unique concept, especially since you mentioned the closure of Fabricland and how Lady Sew-and-Sew is a bit far for many. A mobile shop could really benefit local crafters and sewists who might not have easy access to fabric stores.
In terms of who would utilize it, I think you could attract a variety of customers:
Local Crafters: There are many hobbyists and professional sewists who would appreciate the convenience of a fabric shop nearby.
Quilters: Quilters are always looking for new and unique fabrics, and they might be excited about discovering what you have to offer.
Home Decorators: People looking to create or revamp home decor items, like cushion covers or curtains, could also be interested.
Schools and Community Groups: You could collaborate with local schools for projects or community groups focused on crafting.
Farmers’ Markets Visitors: Setting up at markets could catch the eye of those who might not specifically be looking for fabric but might be inspired by what you have.
To further gauge interest, consider conducting a quick poll on social media or within local crafting groups. Getting feedback will help you tailor your offerings to what people are looking for. With the right marketing and a good selection of fabrics, I think you could definitely carve out a niche in the Reading area!
