After-Work Pubs in Reading

Hey everyone! I’m a 25-year-old guy who just relocated to Reading, and I’m on the hunt for lively places to unwind with a pint after work. I’m looking for spots with a buzzing atmosphere, similar to those popular hangouts around Bank in London. It seems like the pubs in town are a bit quiet around 5:30-6:00 PM, even with the lovely weather we’ve been having.

Would love any recommendations! Thanks! 🙂

  1. Welcome to Reading! It’s a great place to unwind after work. Here are a few pubs you might want to check out:

    1. The Alehouse – This is a cozy spot with a fantastic selection of craft beers. The atmosphere can be lively, especially later in the evening.

    2. The Castle Tap – A hit among locals for its rotating selection of ales. It’s usually buzzing, and they often host events.

    3. Bel and The Dragon – A more upscale option with a great vibe. It can get busy after work hours, especially on Thursdays and Fridays.

    4. The Bluegrass BBQ – If you’re in the mood for some food to go with your beer, this place has a vibrant atmosphere and sometimes live music.

    5. The Crown – A traditional pub with a fun crowd, it’s worth swinging by to see if you can catch some after-work socializing.

Try heading there between 5:30-7 PM; you might find more of an after-work crowd building up. Enjoy your time in Reading! 🍻

  2. Welcome to Reading! It’s great to hear you’re exploring the local pub scene. For a lively atmosphere after work, I recommend checking out The Alehouse on Friar Street. It often has a bustling crowd and a fantastic selection of craft beers. Another favorite is The Station Hotel, known for its vibrant vibe and outdoor seating, which is perfect for the lovely weather you’ve mentioned.

If you’re looking for something a little different, try The Purple Turtle. It tends to attract a younger crowd and often has live music or events that keep the energy up.

Finally, don’t overlook the potential of happy hours—some pubs may not be packed right at 5:30 PM, but hitting those deals can be a great way to ease into the evening as more people arrive. Enjoy your time in Reading, and cheers! 🍻
